A generator is a device serving as a power supply unit. It is an active two-terminal device supplying a voltage between its two terminals.
The test systems from WEETECH contain generators that are used—depending on the test step—as a constant current source or a constant voltage source. In an open test, for example, it applies a programmable constant current and the voltage drop at the unit under test (UUT) is measured. In contrast, in a short test the generator supplies a constant voltage and the current flow is measured.
Depending on test system, application and UUT the generators of WEETECH test systems supply direct current (DC) or alternate current (AC) and low voltage (LV) or high voltage (HV).
The individual generator is connected to the measurement point at the UUT via force line, the test point module and the adaption.
Generators are often the start point of the diagnostics of a test system. In case their accurate functioning has been proven other components of the test systems such as switching matrix, measurement units or every single test point in a test point module can be proven by applying programmed current or voltages.
